Glazing Day!

It's GLAZING TIME!!! This is something I really look forward to, because this is the part of the process where it feels like I'm accomplishing a lot in a very little bit of time. It's literally the only part of the process where I get to see abrupt change. The acid yellow you see in the pictures is a vanadium wash, very VERY toxic until its fired. And the light grey you see is a glaze I like to call my Glossy Halo Crawl which is a glaze I formulated myself which uses soda ash to create an orange "halo" around the glaze once fired. The dark grey you see is a kyanite wash, which can bleach the clay body. There is also a soda ash wash on several of the pieces, but you can't see it because the soda ash has been dissolved in water and sucked into the clay body itself. These formulas and practices have all been tested in a gas fire reduction kiln. The test tile you saw in my last post should give you a better idea of what the final products will look like. I can't wait to post some pics of the finished products! Waiting on kilns is like waiting for Christmas when you're eight years old! These pieces should come out of the kiln this weekend so check back soon! And don't forget to visit my brand new website: WWW.JENNIFERBERESFORD.COM
