Upcycling is so much fun!

Working on this adorable little footstool. Isnt it so cute?! Almost finished, just needs a few finishing touches. It has a removable top so it can be used for storage too!

Letting you in on a little secret...

Okay everybody, I have a confession to make.

I have been a closeted interior designer for months now.

I was worrying about distracting from my ceramic sculpture work but I cant contain it any longer... Lol. Here's my Pinterest link for now. Maybe if you all are good I will share the room specific designs I've been doing... Stay tuned!

Getting my craft on. :)

Hey everybody! So you've probably noticed I havn't been posting much lately. The reason for that is I am between studio spaces at the moment. So with the lack of an outlet for my artistic cravings Ive been attacking my apartment. I love to DIY things, especially small scale construction type projects. So I figured I would share what Ive been up to. This first pic is a storage solution. It was a really easy quick project and I think it looks great if I do say so myself. lol. So here's the before and after. :)

Horribly fugly, right?

And voila! Build a fabric room divider real quick and hide all my extra crap! lol. And since it's a classic black and white damask pattern it works with all my vintage furniture without being stuffy.

So boring and blah before. Add some creative arranging, art, and an antique headboard and its a hundred times better.

This is the living room as well. This my collage of stuff I've assembled on and around my biggest bookcase. I like to think of it as an art nerd montage...

I love doing stuff like this. Building and combining an unusual combination of things to make something layered and eye-catching and interesting. Next post will probably be me building a custom tufted headboard. Yay! :D

Art Comes Alive Show

Hey everyone! I just found out I'm one of the artists receiving an award at the award ceremony on opening night! I'm so excited! This is the piece I'm receiving the award for. It will be displayed on one of my custom pedestals. The actual event is going to be super crowded and R.S.V.P. only, but they are having an open-house early peek preview on June 20th all day until 9pm so I would love to see everybody there!  https://www.facebook.com/artdesignconsultants/page_map

Another Show! :O

Hey there people! I have great news! I got accepted into the Art Comes Alive show hosted by Art Design Consultants here in Cinci. It should be a pretty swanky event so I'm very excited. It's in the "gallery in the sky." Sounds impressive, huh? Lol. Now I just have to figure out if I have to haul all those darn stones up there...

Very Heavy Pedestals...

So can I just say, I am officially tired of winter. I had a full day of pedestal building planned and then it started snowing. Whats up with that Mother Nature? It's March for crying out loud! Anyway, here's some pics from pedestal building yesterday. They're coming along very well I think. 9 down, 2 to go. Oh and in case anyone didn't know, this past Friday was officially 2 weeks until the opening at The Carnegie! Come down and see Parade people. It's going to be awesome! :D

Glazing Day!

It's GLAZING TIME!!! This is something I really look forward to, because this is the part of the process where it feels like I'm accomplishing a lot in a very little bit of time. It's literally the only part of the process where I get to see abrupt change. The acid yellow you see in the pictures is a vanadium wash, very VERY toxic until its fired. And the light grey you see is a glaze I like to call my Glossy Halo Crawl which is a glaze I formulated myself which uses soda ash to create an orange "halo" around the glaze once fired. The dark grey you see is a kyanite wash, which can bleach the clay body. There is also a soda ash wash on several of the pieces, but you can't see it because the soda ash has been dissolved in water and sucked into the clay body itself. These formulas and practices have all been tested in a gas fire reduction kiln. The test tile you saw in my last post should give you a better idea of what the final products will look like. I can't wait to post some pics of the finished products! Waiting on kilns is like waiting for Christmas when you're eight years old! These pieces should come out of the kiln this weekend so check back soon! And don't forget to visit my brand new website: WWW.JENNIFERBERESFORD.COM
