Very Heavy Pedestals...

So can I just say, I am officially tired of winter. I had a full day of pedestal building planned and then it started snowing. Whats up with that Mother Nature? It's March for crying out loud! Anyway, here's some pics from pedestal building yesterday. They're coming along very well I think. 9 down, 2 to go. Oh and in case anyone didn't know, this past Friday was officially 2 weeks until the opening at The Carnegie! Come down and see Parade people. It's going to be awesome! :D

So I got some lovely pieces out of the kiln today! I'm very pleased with how they came out. So I decided to give you all a sneak peak at the goods! You'll have to come to my show at The Carnegie on April 5th between 6pm and 9pm to see the full set up! I promise I am working hard to give a good showing so be there or be square! :D

Glazing Day!

It's GLAZING TIME!!! This is something I really look forward to, because this is the part of the process where it feels like I'm accomplishing a lot in a very little bit of time. It's literally the only part of the process where I get to see abrupt change. The acid yellow you see in the pictures is a vanadium wash, very VERY toxic until its fired. And the light grey you see is a glaze I like to call my Glossy Halo Crawl which is a glaze I formulated myself which uses soda ash to create an orange "halo" around the glaze once fired. The dark grey you see is a kyanite wash, which can bleach the clay body. There is also a soda ash wash on several of the pieces, but you can't see it because the soda ash has been dissolved in water and sucked into the clay body itself. These formulas and practices have all been tested in a gas fire reduction kiln. The test tile you saw in my last post should give you a better idea of what the final products will look like. I can't wait to post some pics of the finished products! Waiting on kilns is like waiting for Christmas when you're eight years old! These pieces should come out of the kiln this weekend so check back soon! And don't forget to visit my brand new website: WWW.JENNIFERBERESFORD.COM

Test Tile Fresh From the Kiln!

This is a test tile for the glazes I'll be using for my new pieces. Washes of soda ash and Vanadium and Kyanite. Also my Crawling Soda Halo glaze. Stay tuned...

A Fairly Unproductive Day...

Well I'm sure you've all had days like today. It seemed like nothing today was cooperating with me enough to get anything done. The kiln isn't cool yet, the hardware store doesn't have a hack saw, its too cold to work outside... I think its time to just admit defeat, stay in, and work on my mailing list. If anyone would like to be added to my ever-growing mailing list just send me an email with your name and address if you like and you'll receive a show card or email for my next show! Stay tuned, glazing is next...
